Buckinghamshire Grammar Schools

Buckinghamshire has 13 grammar schools, all of which use the same Secondary Transfer Test (11+) to assess children for entry into Year 7. The examination takes place in September, at the beginning of Year 6.

Children who achieve a standardised score of 121 or above qualify for consideration for a grammar school place. However, qualification does not guarantee admission.

Unlike some other selective areas, Buckinghamshire does not rank qualified children according to scores above 121. Once a child has qualified, admission is determined by each school’s individual admissions criteria, which may include catchment area, distance from school and sibling priority.

Parents should check the admissions policy of their preferred grammar school before applying.
